One night, I felt like drinking Jollibee's Chocolate float but was too lazy to go and buy and it would be more expensive to have it delivered. I decided to make my own using Milo 3-in-1. I also added a scoop of chocolate ice cream in place of the vanilla ice cream. Yum yum!i'm trying to be a blogger. and what else should i write about but my life, my likes and absolutely anything under the sun. it's not always that exciting or interesting. but it'll have to do..

pesta
I read Terry McMillan's "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". This is an old book, way back in 1995 but I only bought it this month at Book Sale. Anyway, Stella went to Jamaica where people would say pesta instead of pasta. Whatever.
Here's two versions of pesta that I cooked last week. My mom had leftover elbow macaroni and I decided to make good use of it.
The first version is creamy garlic from McCormick. It wasn't creamy nor garlicky, I'm afraid. The recipe called for a cup of fresh milk in addition to the powder but it was disappointing. The baby's yaya polished off my leftovers . = ) I used luncheon meat (because it was the only meat I could find) and added bell peppers.
The next day, I had pesta again but in the traditional sense. I used spaghetti sauce, a bit tomato sauce, ground meat and bacon with onions and bell pepper. This was delish. It was sweet, just the way I like it and filling. I made a bigger batch because I got a bigger spaghetti sauce pouch and my mom was able to save some for her midnight snack.

miss piggy
Lately I've been on an eating spree. I've had several cravings of food, mostly pasta and burgers, which I have indulged in. I know it is because of my hormones (yeah right!) that is why I am happily eating anything and everything. For two straight days I ate two versions of pasta which I made myself. The first one sucked (hahaha!) but today's pasta tasted better. Not to mention the siomai and waffle and brownies, etc. etc...
Because the bf was unable to exercise yesterday, I decided to forego running as well. I slept till 7 am which meant I got 9 hours of sleep. My head was throbbing from oversleep. Before, I could sleep up to 12 hours straight but not anymore. My bedtime is at 9:30-10 in the evening and I awake at 5:30 or so the next morning. This is sufficient sleep for me already. Getting 9 hours is already too much at this point in time. But I guess I still didn't learn because I slept another 9 hours last night. We still didn't get to exercise this morning, not because of the bf, but because of bad weather. It was raining last night and it was still raining when I woke up. In fact, the bf didn't get to do much work this afternoon because we were just snuggling. The cold weather would make anyone get lazy and we were no exception.
Before I know it, I'll probably regain all the weight I lost-or not! I know I will get over this piggy phase next week. I have to or else all my effort will be for naught!

trip and tired
I'll be away for about three days again since I'll be traveling with the bf tomorrow. I'm happy because that means I won't have to write or work. I was supposed to take today off but my boss gave me two urgents tasks. I was going bond with the baby and take him to the mall this afternoon but he does not want to. It's fine with me though, at least I can rest early.
I had scheduled several tasks this week and I have finally accomplished all of them. I am now looking forward to relaxing in the metropolis-- although I doubt if it will really be a relaxing time. The bf's friend in Pampanga invited him for their annual fiesta and we'll be spending a night there, I think. That will be a first for both of us although I think their fiesta will be similar to ours. We'll just have to see...
I haven't uploaded my pictures yet so I won't be able to make a post on our St. John's beach day as well as my pasta dish. I'm just too tired to think of other things-sorry. I am into 2 Broke Girls right now and have downloaded all the episodes. It's really funny and after I finish watching, I'm going to watch Suburgatory next. I am still deciding whether to download Parenthood Season 2 because I've seen some episodes already.
My sister took our uncle to the doctor this morning. She was scared because he was having difficulty breathing and was requesting for oxygen. However, he does not want to be taken to the hospital so they compromised. He agreed to a checkup as long as he wasn't going to be confined. This uncle is the one we visit every Saturday who is a stubborn and mule headed war veteran.
Ciao!

turkey sausage
My paternal grandmother has a sister who lives in the U.S. (who doesn't???). Anyway, when I was still in elementary and high school, she would come home every two years or so. Before, we had the fanciest house in the family. Fancy meaning it was concrete, clean and had a decent bathroom. This grandmother of mine was a neat freak and so she often stayed in our house. She liked the fact that my mom was neat and kept a clean house. That meant we had first dibs on the stuff she brought such as Chips Ahoy!, Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows, chocolates and smoked sausage. Back then-meaning the 80s, those things were big deal and you could hardly find that in your local supermarket.
I loved all that she brought but the winner hands down was the smoked sausage. I have no idea of the brand or the name of the particular sausage she would bring. I only recognize it by taste. And I have missed it over the years. She hasn't come home in about five years or so because her husband got sick and so did she.

And I have missed it over the years. She hasn't come home in about five years or so because her husband got sick and so did she.
So I would often buy Hungarian sausage, cervelat or schublig and hope the taste would be the same. Unfortunately, nothing came close. I don't know why but I vaguely remember the sausage having turkey. One Sunday I found this package on the freezer in the supermarket and I just had to try it.
I had the sausage for dinner. Just cut one long sausage in half and sliced it thinly. Fried it in oil and tasted it. The taste was like the one I often had but saltier. I regret not pairing it with mustard because it would have tasted better. I actually paired it with banana catsup and the taste was not the same.
Yesterday, I remembered I had a package of Bolognese sauce. So I decided to cook it with the remaining half of the sausage, added mushrooms, garlic, onions and bell pepper. It was to die for, I swear. I know I'm not a good cook but I was able to create a pasta dish worth showing off.

foodie
I am not such a fan of seafoods. I am allergic to prawns and shrimps. I only like calamari and adobong pusit and of course, fish. But I love scallops probably because I don't get to eat it too often. Last week, I was able to get scallops from Bacolod. However, I forgot about it until last Thursday when I was able to make baked scallops with cheese and garlic. It's actually a very simple recipe and I did my way. I melted butter and added the garlic powder. I poured the mixture to the scallops (which I thoroughly cleaned, btw) and more garlic powder and garlic. Topped it with cheese and baked for about ten minutes until the cheese was bubbling. This recipe was influenced by Hukad which is a Filipino restaurant in Cebu City.Thursday, April 19, 2012
pasta
I got my camera already and it's good as new! Anyway, this post is not about my camera but pasta.
photo from your30somethingmom.blogspot.com

photo from your30somethingmom.blogspot.comI got KFC's Cheesy Bacon Pasta last Saturday but I wasn't able to eat it. I just stuck it in the fridge unopened. My sister asked what kind of pasta it was and told her. She said it was too salty and so I decided to tweak it a bit. I sliced onions and bell pepper and added about 1/4 cup of tomato sauce to the pasta. Here's the end result:
I didn't get to finish it all though. It was yummy but I was already full so stopped and I just put the leftover in the fridge. My meal consisted of garlic French bread, the pasta and KFC coleslaw. We have mangoes and I was planning to make crepes today. But the baby and I went out and was too tired to make already. But I intend to make some tomorrow and a chicken something that comes from a bottle. Wait and see!
