dinner at home

I held my post-birthday dinner last night. It was an intimate affair with family, my girlfriends and family friends. The bf sprang for my lechon because he didn't get me a birthday gift. Hahaha! I only had few dishes prepared because I knew there were few people coming. Two of my girlfriends failed to come because one was pregnant and required bed rest while the other's kids had the flu. The baby had a great time playing with my girlfriends' kids who came and he slept very soundly last night.

It was my cousin's actual birthday so he had his picture taken with my teeny cake and the food to prove that it was his "celebration".

It was fun although the bf couldn't come. He was very sick that night and is still sick up to today. He has the flu and even if I gave him a whole body massage yesterday and is taking medication, his fever still hasn't gone down. I am really worried about it and am tempted to take him to the doctor already.

weekend

The day after the baby's birthday is my girlfriend's birthday. The night before, we planned on having lunch together but finally decided on a breakfast birthday. It was simple, relaxing and fun. The food was breakfast fare and I requested for puto, tsokolate and sardines. I also brought in food from the party. My other girlfriend brought chocolates, almonds, pistachios and cashews so we were really full. It was just us at my friend's house although I had to leave early because it's Saturday and that mean's "visit the uncle" day. I no longer ate lunch there, only fed the baby.

When I got home, I took a catnap and then spent quality time with the bf. We had a busy week and weren't able to spend much time together after arriving from the metro. I was busy with the party and he was busy with business and that just won't do. We had a good time and then I capped off my day with a whole body massage. It was so relaxing, I actually slept in the middle of the session.

Sunday means bike, church and then lay back afterwards. The baby and I stopped by McDonald's to get breakfast and there I saw our walking/running buddies. They were inquiring about what happened to us so I told them we already do biking. I am now at home, alternating between TV, computer, eating and sleeping. This is the life.

friday night

I went out again the next day, Friday. This time, I was with my girlfriends. We were supposed to have dinner only but plans always go awry. We ended up eating at the mall's foodcourt and out to a bar for drinks. I didn't drink beer this time, just good old Cali Ice. This is one of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks ever.

We had a good time at the bar, eating pica-pica and laughing out loud. We even chanced upon a college classmate and caught up with her too. One of girlfriends is a new mother and does not want to leave her baby for long. We broke up at around 9pm--yes, that early! But it was just in perfect timing because right before we went home, earthquake struck. It was mild, hardly even felt but it was long, about a minute or so. When I got in the house, I asked my mom but she didn't really feel it and so did my dad. My brother texted if I felt the earthquake and if I was home because he was out too. The earthquake was really miles from our city but still it scared some of the residents here.

It was nice being with my girlfriends again. We've sort of made a pact to meet at least once a month. In a couple of week's they'll be here in the house for the baby's birthday bash.

girlfriends

I finally got to catch up with my girlfriends this week. I don't often spend time with them because most of them no longer work here. We have to wait for special occasions before we can get together.

One of my girlfriends came home so we decided to meet up on Monday. We were planning a karaoke night but didn't push through. Instead, we went off to a Mexican restaurant and spent four hours just talking and gossiping. It was fun even if it meant a long night for me. If it wasn't so late, we'd have stayed up forever just talking.

We had dinner in a girlfriend's house last night but we had to stop early because it was the start of classes the next day and a work day at that. One of my girlfriends is actually celebrating her birthday today but because everyone is busy, we didn't make any plans anymore.

I'm not too keen on going out as well because I'll be traveling tomorrow with the bf. We are actually worried about the supposed typhoon because we'll be in the metropolis by then. It could mean we'll be stranded and I might miss the christening this Sunday- yes I'll be a godmother for the nth time. Both of my girlfriends already gave birth, just one day apart. There will be another christening next Saturday.

I'm happy to have met up and reconnected with my friends and I'm looking forward to the next time.

nosebleed

As you may have surmised, my son is English-speaking. He doesn't understand you if you talk t him in the dialect although he follows some words such as tubig, among others. Because I am used to talking to him in English, I sometimes lapse into speaking English with other people.

Last night, I had dinner with my girlfriends and while we were talking, I asked one of them a question in English. And she says, did you forget I'm not you're son, you're giving me nosebleed. Hahaha! I said sorry, I forgot.

They are amazed that my son can speak English really well. One time, we were together and we were heading for home. The baby didn't want them to get in the car and he was screaming "those kids are getting in the car, I don't like them!" Of course, they had to grin and bear it. They had to explain to him they needed to ride with us because they had no vehicle. And the baby just ignored them although he did say goodbye when they left.

I know my son will learn Filipino and the vernacular in a few years but at least he knew English first. At least I can be sure he won't have problems with it in school. Math, on the other hand, is another concern.

busy and tired

I'm sorry if I haven't blogged in a few days. I was busy with the baby and traveling with the bf. What with the mother being away for more than a week, I had my hands full. Plus, I still had to work. Anyway, I'm home and I'm trying to rest. But I have to go to a lot of places and do a lot of things today. I'm really racking my brains on how to fit everything in my schedule. I need to go to a wake, a post-wedding dinner and do the groceries. I already missed a wedding, hanging out with my girlfriends and lunch at my uncle's.

I need a massage and I'm getting one later after the baby sleeps and I have to go on some errands. I'll be back in a few...

the break

I took the Holy Week break to heart. I didn't work starting Thursday and basically just laid back. I have said we weren't going anywhere and we didn't. I had no intention of using my computer or going online during that period. However, I had to because two of my aunts had their orders. One wanted me to make a resume and the other wanted me to make a speech. I had no way out so I had to do it. I even handwrote the speech because I still had no printer. I ended up watching two movies on Thursday. First was "The Artist" and the other was "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Both were great movies and the latter was really interesting.

We did the Visita Iglesia on Thursday night. It was sort of my first time because the last time I did it, it was more of an excursion. I went with my choir group then and was quite fun. This time, it was with family and more solemn. It's just too bad I didn't bring my camera because the churches were beautifully lit and decorated.

I don't join the Via Crucis on Good Friday anymore. The people in our place end up just going too fast and not stopping at stations. It somehow turns into a race and I find it pointless. We were supposed to join the procession in the afternoon but the baby was scared of the statues. Only my parents and brother joined and we waited for them to finish. We ate out that night and fasting flew out the window.

Saturday was the day for the girlfriends. I went to my girlfriend's house at 2:30pm already because the bf wanted to spend time with me first. I got home at almost 10pm although I told him at 7:30 that I was on my way home. Even then, he complained that it was already late. Imagine! I had such fun laughing with the girls. We were complete and it was basically all about food and talking and catching up. Two of the girls are due to give birth next month. We're expecting one boy and one girl.

Sunday was family day again. However, my sister and her family didn't join us. Nevertheless, we had such fun swimming in the pool and eating. The baby didn't want to go home and when we finally did, he was knocked out in five minutes. The heat was really bad and I ended up burning my right shoulder. It's quite red and hurts a bit. I ended up wearing a strapless bra today because I couldn't bear having a bra strap digging in.

That's how I spent the my four-day vacation. Since the break's over, it's back to the drudgery of work yet again.

short leash

I love the bf. But sometimes, I feel that he keeps me on such a short leash. No, I'm not a dog but he's getting to be too possesive. I've always said I don't tell him when I go out and there's a reason. He's always afraid I'll meet someone else. But I have no desire to do so and I don't go out to meet other people anyway. He usually just pops at home when we have to go somewhere and I'm used to it. But sometimes, I also have to go out and do my thing. He sort of gets mad when I'm not there waiting for him.

Today is a good example. My girlfriends planned a get together on Saturday. It'll be a combination baby shower and bonding time. We don't always meet due to different locations and busy schedules. One girlfriend is on house arrest, as per doctor's orders, so it was agreed that we hold the party in her house. I know I'll be busy on Saturday so I decided to go grocery shopping today. Most stores I know will close tomorrow and Friday. The bf just left so I didn't bother telling him I was going out. Just as I got to the store, the bf texted and asked where I was. And I was like, do you have esp or something? So I had to call and explain where I went. Apparently, he called at home and was told I was out. Just my luck, right?

The truth is, it's okay that he's always checking up on me. But maybe he should give me a break sometimes. I don't go out and go manhunting anyway. And not that I'm complaining, mind you.

summer plans

the summer has arrived. the heat is alarming! but rains also help to lower temperature once in a while. march is almost over and next week, it'll be april. we have no plans of going anywhere on april except for easter sunday. but that is usually just nearby, usually at a beach resort. during the last week of april, my mom has to travel with her colleagues for about one week or so.

for may, we plan to go to bohol and boracay. bohol is for my cousin's wedding while we plan to visit boracay during the last week of may. i'd prefer to go in june but my brother starts classes by then. it'll be my parents and the kids' first time in boracay so it'll be a treat. however, i am kind of scared after i read an entry from chuvaness.com about E.coli in boracay beach. hopefully, it'll be okay.

other than that, i have no other summer plans. the bf has no desire to go anywhere because he is quite busy with a new venture. he has been talking about going on a cruise because a friend mentioned it to him. but i think that will take quite a long time yet. two of my girlfriends are also slowed down by their pregnancies and three are out of town. i think i'll only get to see them this holy week and for a short time only.

mommies to be

i have three friends who are pregnant at this time. one was ahead of the pack, unfortunately, she had to have the pregnancy terminated due to complications. but three others followed her quickly enough.

Friend A is married. she's probably 3-4 months on the way. her husband cheated on her last year. but he was always a cheating s.o.b. even then. since she loves him, what can i say? i am actually kind of pissed at this but knowing she wants another baby, then whatever!

Friend B is single but because she got pregnant, she will marry the baby daddy this month. she isn't too keen about her pregnancy but i know she'll get the hang of it in time.

Friend C is single but has no plans of getting married. she's been with her bf for 10 to 11 years already and does not see the need to tie the knot.

just goes to show that it's different strokes for different folks! = )

nude pumps

i was invited to a classmate's wedding last august. because i don't like buying formal clothes off the rack, i often have one made. and i did for this one. i chose a navy blue color because i was feeling fat at that time and the color was dark enough. black will not do for a wedding in this country, or in our place for that matter.

i was supposed to go with my two girlfriends but they weren't going at the last minute. i wasn't too keen on going by myself. so i didn't get new shoes to match my dress. i was thinking of pairing it with nude pumps. i was searching in the mall for the right pair of shoes. but i just couldn't find it. so wore an old dress to the wedding. i only went to the church and went home afterwards.

this month, i have another wedding to attend to. and i'm planning to wear the dress i didn't get to wear. during my family's out of town trip, nude pumps was number one on my agenda. unfortunately, the only pumps i could find were sky high. i don't think the shoes now are made for walking! so i didn't get my nude pumps. i'm the kind of shopper who'll buy right away if i find the right merchandise. apparently, i haven't found the right pair yet.

*edit: i found the right pumps at a local boutique. it's made by janilyn and totally fit me. but at Php2,300, i wasn't willing to shell out that much for a pair of shoes i'll probably wear twice a year. hahaha! i decided to pair my dress with a pair of red patent wedges. = )

the long weekend

i no longer have to go to the office so every day is like a weekend for me. i don't have to worry about mondays etc. it was a long weekend and i enjoyed it like i do every day of the week. the bf and i was on a trip yet again last week but we came home on a saturday. i didn't exactly have a packed weekend planned but i had places to go and people to see. i was able to go a friend's wedding but i skipped the reception since i was terribly sick during the trip home. (see previous post!) i did forego a saturday night of drinking and socializing for a good night's sleep.

on sunday, i lazed around in the afternoon plus a power nap. but i did wash the car in the morning and it felt great. i was waiting for both the bf and the masseuse to come around 5 pm but only the masseuse came. hahaha! actually the bf was getting a massage himself, thus he failed to show up. anyway, i enjoyed my two-hour body massage tremendously. i was supposed to meet a high school friend later in the night (again!) at one of the city's hotspots but i was too lazy to go. i just dropped by the place when i had to get baby's stuff and we talked for like a minute.

monday was beach day with the girlfriends. naturally, it meant a lot of yakking and gabbing and laughter. and did i mention tons of food? it was a lot of fun but i was exhausted after. maybe because it was too hot outside. i had work to submit but i told my boss i couldn't make the deadline. it was not just exhaustion really, my connection conked out yesterday and my prepaid internet wasn't working as well. luckily, he allowed me to submit today.

tuesday, i spent whole day with family. it was just like a usual sunday that we capped off with dinner out. now, i'm resting and looking forward to another week ahead.
